To make a long story short, this driver blew through a stop sign and I hit him at 50 mph, putting me in the hospital for a day and out of work for a week. I am still wearing a brace for my fractured & sprained wrist. Because I am an AF spouse, there was very little to pay in medical bills and GEICO settled quickly for my lost wages and general inconveniences (it was a very small check).

Their adjuster made the decision quickly to total the car - it wasn't a difficult one to make. We were promised a check would be sent to the bank to pay for the car THAT WEEK. When it hadn't been sent, we called the next week to find out the that "representative" (I put it in quotations because we can never get the same person on the phone) put a "wrong code" into the claim file so that the check was null and never sent out. They said they had corrected it and would send the check to the bank THAT WEEK.

The week after, we still hadn't heard any news of the check being delivered, so we called and GUESS WHAT?! Either the previous issue had not truly been corrected or someone made A NEW MISTAKE, again delaying the delivery of our check. We were promised the issue would be taken care of and the check would go out THAT WEEK.

The next week? Still no check to the bank. When we called, the "rep" told us we have to send the title to them before they will cut and mail a check to the bank. This was news to us, as we had called three times already to ensure the check was being delivered and were NEVER TOLD THIS.

Now my husband is less than a week from mobilizing with his unit and we cannot replace our car. We had to pay $60 to overnight the title to the GEICO office and then overnight the check from GEICO to our bank just to expedite the process. We still have to wait for our Gap Insurance company to close out the loan for us. All the while this has been progressing, our car loan is still in effect for a car we cannot drive and GEICO has possession of. So, what do you know . . . we had to pay an additional $350 car payment which we will never see reimbursed.

Still waiting for GEICO to send the check, more than a month after their customer nearly killed me. Still hoping that my last weekend with my husband before he has to leave will not be spent purchasing a replacement car . . .

I can't listen to one of their Gecko commercials without my blood boiling over. You may save "hundreds of dollars by switching to GEICO", but you'd better be willing to sacrifice good customer service and deal with their slip-ups should you ever need to rely on them in an emergency.

I love my State Farm. They have always treated me like a valued human being and processed my claims with ease.
