GEICO Doubles Policy Cost after Check Lost in Mail
OK, GEICO SUCKS...PLEASE SHARE - this post is PUBLIC!! - I'm HAPPY to let you all know my experience with GEICO today.
What a terrible way to do business. I pay my premium back on 10-23-2014 by check, by mail, as I've done for years. I call them today to ask about new insurance because I'm getting a new truck this weekend. They let me know my policy cancelled FIVE days ago.
They claim the check never arrived. They NEVER called or contacted me a day BEFORE the policy ran out, nor did they AFTER it cancelled. Nothing. Nada.
I confirmed all my contact info was up-to-date with them. I've been driving FIVE days with no insurance. They say they can re-instate me with a payment. I say OK.
The new policy is almost DOUBLE what the previous one was. Why? Because of the lapse. I have been with them NINE years - not a single at-fault claim and not a single ticket - NO late or defaulted payments...which I point out to them.
There is nothing they can do they say. I tell them I will cancel when I buy my new truck this weekend, AND do what I'm doing now...spread my experience on the internet. They are sorry. I tell them they WILL be even sorrier.
To boot, my new policy cannot start until midnight tonight, so instead of traveling to see my family for Thanksgiving right now, I'm sleeping in my office until midnight then driving three hours, before I get up at 7am to work remotely from there tomorrow.
THANKS GEICO - you lost a loyal customer, and hopefully many more as I spread this across the web. Companies just don't get it...but they will learn the hard way.
Reason of review: Problems with payment.
