I recently moved to back the mainland US, from the US Virgin Islands to go to school for 6 months. I leased an old car and got a quote from Geico on the insurance. Just liability since it's a really old car I'm leasing. I told them everything upfront, that I have a US Virgin Islands ( we are United States!) and had no intention of changing it to the state I was in since i'm just here for less than 6 months as a full time student. They quoted me a 6 month rate of $100.32. I bought the policy. then about 3 weeks later they changed my rate to $618!!! They said it was an inexperienced driver fee! I'm 52 and have a lic. since the age of 16. They said the Virgin Islands lic didn't count and that since I have less than 3 years driving in the states they had to raise the rate. Are you kidding, Ive only been in the USVI for 6 yesrs, had a FL lic. before that. So I went to cancel and go with AllState and now they said if I canx i have to pay 34% of the entire premium, which is $210.. i feel like they've got me, they know it and there is nothing i can do. I will never do business with Geico again. Please shop around and get some guarantees before you buy. who would have thought? 127cf37

Just happened to me. I was already a customer for over 2 years. Wanted to lower my premium and go to state minimums. I was also switching from MD to DE. My policy was at $133, my new quote was $119 beginning oct 1 and $90 until then since I had just paid my policy the day before. The math for the $90 didn't quite add up to me but I took it since that was their offer and my info was 100% accurate being that I'm already a customer with no claims. 3 weeks later received a bill for $178. Fifty-eight minutes of transferring, holding and re-explaining the blatant bait and switch to no avail. They said they have no record of my $119 quote. Progressive already quoted me at $113. I was only staying with Geico since I have been with them for a few years. That was a mistake. I can only imagine how they handle claims if they so easily lie about rates.

This sounds very similar with what happened to me. It was the same bait and switch game, with me giving all of my information up front to them. They accepted it then totally turned around later on and gave me a week to either join under my own policy or leave. I chose to leave. If I can't trust a company there is no way I'll give them any hard-earned penny of mine.

Last I heard the Virgin Islands are not a state of the union. This is your fault for lying on your application.
