Geico is a big rip off and we are stuck with them!

My husband joined the Army full time in April and out of 6 years as a customer with Geico, NOW we a have a problem. You draw your own conclusions on that one! We were buying a new car and thought we were being smart about the process. We even called for a quote before the final purchase to make sure the insurance would be affordable. The quote was a pleasant surprise. I asked the agent "are you SURE that is right?" He said "yes it is, I am just that good!" We went ahead with the deal on the car, thinking we had covered all of the bases. I called AFTER signing the papers on the VERY large loan to confirm the switch from the old car to the new car. The insurance is almost double the quote. I asked the lady I spoke to what the problem was and she said "well you have a teen on your policy and she didn't know why the other agent made that quote". That teen has been on our policy for 3 years. Why is she all of a sudden a "problem"? Now we are stuck buying a vehicle with insurance we cant afford. We are at a loss as what to do. We have found a cheaper home to move to so we can buy food out of the money we save on rent. The only thing about the cheaper place is we must get rid of our pets to move. Thanks allot Geico! Is this how you treat all of your Military customers?

*** serves in the military then expects his country to treat him like a king :x shame on him, pluss I thonk that insurance is a ripoff itself by making all citizens have to forcefully get insurance, only makes insureres jack up the prices

#176141

That's how we do in the Ghetto. Drive Expensive Cars and live in the Projects.

#150542

Only irresponsible, uncaring, truly awful people "get rid of" pets. Why not "get rid of" your children; they're bigger, more expensive, eat more, and take up more room.

#150540

how does being military matter?? being miliatry doesn't give you the right to special treatment.

if you can't afford a large car loan maybe you shouldn't have purchased the car. the rate of insurance shouldn't matter...at anytime any insurance company could change their rates.

therefore, the quote doesn't mean anything. even if you got the policy at the lower rate, geico still has every right to increase your premium at renewal anyway!

#147541

Why not get quotes from other insurance companies or USAA? Geico can't force you to keep them as your insurer.

Also, needing to take out a VERY large loan to buy a car is not "being smart", especially when your budget is tight.

#147540

COOL IT ***!!!!!! IF YOUR THAT *** POOR YOU SHOULDNT HAVE BOUGHT YOUR EXPENSIVE CAR!!!!! DONT BLAME OTHERS FOR YOUR *** MISTAKES :upset :upset :upset :eek :eek :eek :x :x :x :x :cry :cry :cry

Gieco Gone Goofy

I want to know why when you pay for insurance that is supposed to protect you. They pay someone to not sue you?To sum this up in less than 100 words. Twenty years ago if someone were to tap your bumper, everyone gets out of the vehicle and asks if you are alright.. everyone says yeah we are fine all parties shake hands and go there own way. My son has tapped the bumper after coming to a complete stop and accidently popped the clutch due to weather conditions and work oil on his boots which slip off the clutch and pop him into someones tail. not causing any property damage to either vehicle.

Dumped stolen burnt hull in my yard

I was supposedly a valued Government/state employee that had two of my vehicles insured with GEICO. They were not willing to pay me what my vehicle was valued when someone stole it and sat it on fire! They dumped the hull back into my only front entrance to my home (dangerous hull and all). Do they not even think of the hazards it is posing to our community, children and animals? GEICO displays ruthless mafia style tatics to try to bully its consumers! They are all good until they have to pay! Still fighting them for my deserved $$$money$$$!

Geico denies claims nation-wide

Geico insurance does not pay when it should. Look up personal injury claims not paid and you will find Geico is the number one offender. work together anfd make Geico pay thier claims for personal injury. Join dontgotogeico.com you'll be glad you at-least tried. Geico insurance hired David Glodstein Accoutants to discredit my claim for personal injury. They spent a whole year doing it and they told Geico not to pay me, they didn't. I justified my claim with canceled checks, professional records from my own accountants. We submitted every form they asked for for well over a year. We proved positvely that I lost $14,000.00 in wages but they will not pay. I need you to help me, if you do I will help you too. Lets band together and cause them some grief just like they caused us. Are you with me? Please help as there is strengh in numbers. Join dontgotogeico.com and lets hang them out to dry! Geico lies

I called Geico for an auto insurance quote after seeing how much I could save. They quoted me a monthly rate equal to what I pay Allstate for 6 months. They are total ripoffs. Then they must have sold my name and personal info to all mailing lists, I got junk mail until I moved. After reading many consumer sites like this, I think Geico must have people just to check the internet and counter all complaints so don't believe much of what you read positive about them. And now they are advertising home and apt. insurance. yippee. How to be homeless insure with Geico...

Follows is an email written to Tony Not-so-Nicely, CEO of Geico, which was ignored completely. Below that is an essay about Geico that was sent to every major newspaper in the US. What a shame that we as consumers have no recourse and companies like Geico can do...

I say we sound the possy and round up some camel riding cavemen with pet geckos.

They're commercials are as incompetent as their claims asjusting policies. Don't forget Maxwell the pig, we can have him for breakfast before we round up the rest of the gang.

Geico Claim

I Guess I was not Worthy of Their Respect.

I am not sure if it was my situation that warranted such a bad experience, but I was a poor, vulnerable college student when I was involved in a wreck in September of 2004. At the time I was driving a jalopy with dents all around when I was hit by a red light runner. GEICO assigned me an agent. I think his name was Justin Morgan or something like that. It has been a long time and I do not remember everything that was said and done, but it brings to mind a old quote: 'people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.' To make a long story short, Justin (or whatever the boy's name was) made me feel very lowly, confused and disrespected. I tried to negotiate the settlement amount that I was to receive (keep in mind that I was younger and naive at the time) and he went into this rant about how ghetto my car was. I mean, come on: I knew my car was ghetto but did he really have to be that disrespectful about it? Also, I decided not to settle on account of the fact that I really needed my car and could not afford to go without it long enough to find another decent car for $2,000, and I told him that. Nonetheless, he still hounded me to settle. I felt as if I was being harassed with all the constant phone calls and messages. I have since graduated from college and I drive a much nicer car, and I wonder if his treatment of me would be different in my current situation. I will never know; I have refused to go with GEICO ever since. By the way, I am covered with a full coverage policy with a small local insurance company that charged me less than 60% of what my GEICO policy would be. Don't be blinded by the weird money clip or the ridiculous song- there are better insurance companies.

I have requested my insurance cards several times from my insurance company and have yet to get them

I am getting a little frustrated with calling and emailing customer service for copies of my insurance cards for my daughter's car. I need to make sure that my daughter has the card on her person. I have paid the policy in full, so there is no good reason why they can't get on this and get them out to me. In my former life I was an insurance agent for several major companies. If you failed to get the cards out to the customers you were reprimanded. What are these people doing, playing solitaire at their desks?

If it's your daughter's policy, you as an agent should know that they cannot discuss or make changes or even send ID cards unless your daughter gave them permission to speak with you. If they were to do any of that and your daughter did not give them permission to allow you to do anything with her policy, then they would be in violation of privacy laws.

That being said, you can print the cards online through their website, use their mobile app, have them emailed, faxed, or mailed.

#129467

they can be emailed, mailed, faxed, and picked up from a local agent. does that even sound right, they wont send me my insurance cards, cry cry.

shut up, go online to geico.com access your policy there and print them out yourself. if you dont have a computer make sure the information "YOU" gave them is correct, so they can re-send them.

why would they not send them on purpose, that must be a plot against you. oooh

#119778

You can't get your cards, and I can't get them to STOP sending me other people's cards. And I'm not even a Geico customer!!!

#116038

OK. NOW I AM REALLY PISSED.

These people have my cars all 7 of them, my homeowners insurance too.

And I can't get insurance cards. WTF

#116035

A geico is bad news. they cheat people, particularly blacks who've done something for themselves

a few weeks ago, a geico policy holder slammed into my fence, doing extensive damage. i filed a claim. although not all of the fence was on the ground, the rest of the fence had been weakened and will have to be replaced. a man named wilkerson, never contacted me. when i called him, he would not pick up the phone. i filed a complaint with the presiden't office. they sent out someone named chapman. for over $2,000 in damage, they offered me a little over $300.00. Additionally, because of the freeze here in louisiana, several very expensive mature plants died, and will have to be replaced. they refused to pay for them. *** geico. don't do business with them.

GEICO insured driver ran into a DOT sign lost control of his car ran into me. Now GEICO is talking about the man having a Medical Emergency and giving me the run around. Is a medical emergecy enmough to get them of the hook.

#129460

its not a race thing, you may think your fence was worth $2k, but it was not. Geico does pay out claims to truthful claimants, and there is something called homeowners and subrogation. look it up and then try again.

#118563

Geico wouldn't be responsible for the plants, unless it was a direct effect from the fence collapsing. They wouldn't cover a freeze on your plants unless you have Homeowner's insurance with them, or the policy holder crashed into your climate controlled shield for your oh so precious plants.

#115808

Do you have documentation what the fence costs to repair/ replace? Do you have documentation on what the plants cost to replace?

bring those to them and file a complaint w/ the insurance commissioner, not on an online forum

#110434

Yeah, I mean the "black" thing is not a fix all for any issue.

Insurance companies screw all without discrimination.

Let's try to be a little more careful with that. Thanks, and spread the word.

#109620

What is up with the "particularly blacks who've done something for themselves"? You've got to be f'ing kidding me!

It's not because your black, they rip off everyone. I completely agree with the fact that the company is terrible but if you honestly think it's because your black you have issues too.

Refused to Cancel mothers Homeowners Policy after death.

Placed a phone call to cancel homeowners policy just as a courtesy since policy period was ending and mother had passed away. Figured they would expire coverage anyway without payment. Well, they continue to charge until delinquent amount adds up then turn into collection agency!!!! They say I cannot cancel a policy I did not start. My name is not on initial policy but property is in my name too. They expect me to get an affidavit or executor of estate to cancel or go get deed and send copy to them. I have enough other stress with 2 deaths in 6 weeks CUT ME SOME SLACK HERE!!!!!!!!

sorry for your loss, but first and foremost geico is not a direct rider for home insurance, they outsource so look very closely at the declarations page, because it will have another name on it (liberty mutual, fidelity, travelers, etc) so there is no possible way they are responsible. now they do allow homeowners to contact their customer service department for questions and concerns, but they cannot physically cancel an outsourced policy, not to mention any company CAN NOT cancel a policy regardless of the homeowner if your name is not on the policy.

it is a security system built for protection, and there have been instances of lies (not saying you are) and trouble has arisen.

so for the record you do need to have the death certificate, executor of estate, or power of attorney as proof. geico is not the problem, do not complain about what you don't know.

#129166

executor is required by law to cancel a policy that isn't in your own name. grow up.

#110432

Let them have it their way. When the collection agency realizes the claims the are seeking for their client in unobtainable because she is deceased, they will return to thier client (Geico) to be paid for the services.

If you get the opportunity to communicate with the collection agency, you should refer them to your "Geico adjuster" for payment. LOl That's where they are gonna end up going for it anyway.

Hope it helps.

I've had minimal problems with Geico, but after these post, I am definitely dropping them while things are calm.

Thanks for posting!

Geico Insurance

I have had Geico car insurance for approximately 6 months. No claims so really no real dealings with them. I called in on the 17th of December to get a price quote for my daughter's car. She already has insurance with AmFam through her Dad--I just merely wanted to know if I could get it cheaper. I didn't have her VIN, her DL #, so I knew I would just be getting a rough quote. After we went through all the personal info the rep says "It doesn't really matter now what it costs because since she lives with you you are required to pay for her on your own car." I said "What?" And she once again repeated it. I said "She has insurance already on her car with another company." The rep said "Doesn't matter. You will have to prove that if you want to dispute the issue." I said "I will cancel all of my insurance with you." And I hung up. Low and behold was I ever shocked when I checked my on-line bank statement from my bank two days later. I had mine set up as a direct withdrawl and they withdrew the amount for my daughter's car out of my bank account. This is again another reason why I detest auto payments and try to avoid them as you are granting that business access to your bank account and you have to then fight to get the monies back. So--with no verbal agreement from me...nothing signed they seem to have the power to write policies and make them binding?! This is nuts! Anyone else have the same ever happen?

Makes sense, at least some of it. Licensed underage children have to have auto insurance, no buts about it (state law).

You have two choices: include them in your policy (done automatically if an insurance company finds out about them, as in Lisa's case), or you and the insurance company mutually agree to exclude the child from your policy, then buy a separate coverage for your child, which then you still have to co-sign and be liable for (underage children cannot sign contracts by themselves). Second choice is usually more expensive.

Adult children can just be excluded from your coverage and buy their own.

#933923

I think a lot of this frustration stems from not understanding your insurance contract. Also, who cares if anonymous works for geico?

That just means he/she has a better understanding of the process. Not everyone is trying to cheat you. Instead of throwing a tantrum, try to understand.

To suza: withdrawals of monthly payments after a policy is paid off is impossible. There has to be a balance because everything is system generated, just like every other company.

#716074

I bet the Anonymous works for Geico, don't listen to him. How about the withdrawals of the monthly payments after the policy was paid off, I am so mad with you, Geico

Thank you for sharing lisalplatt.

#713087

They write a family auto contract and you disclosed your daughter who is in the household. The contract states they can rate for her.

It also states that if you are on AutoPay, that the amount debited can change at any time and you consent to that.

Geico isn't at fault. You are. And if it was such a big deal, all you had to do was send an ID card or insurance binder showing she is covered by the other company.

The charges would have then been reversed to when she was added. It's standard practice for companies doing family auto contracts.

#185262

Giving access to our account, in my opinion, is the last thing I'll do. Many of these reputable comapnies (atleast that's what they claim) will not hesitate to get a hold of their customers' bank account.

To get the money back (whether they owe you or not: Well that's upto their decision). Go figure!

#184930

in july of 2009 our pickup was stolen from our garage by our daughters drunken boyfriend. upon filing the claim we were told that in idaho if you leave the keys to your vehicle were they are accessable to children that you are liable for damages to the vehicle.

the keys to the vehicle were in our kitchen hanging...explain to me how they figure that someone breaking into my home to retreive keys and then stealing and wrecking our vehicle is our fault..this boy is in a correction center for 2 years for this crime but geico still attests that we are at fault! they raised our rates for the remainder of the policy year, the truck is still in our driveway with a new paint job and body work however it is undrivable due to front end damage in the steering, geico claims it was preexisting! i am outraged! then to make matters worse they cancelled us in june due to the accident.....thank god our house didnt burn down, as we were with geico for home coverage also~ beware of this company!

i have never in my life been treated so badly and felt so uncovered by a company that i was a customer of...it would make my day to see them on the list of companies that are closing in todays market...the world is a better place without theives and this company is at the top of my list! never again will i do business with then or any company that advertises and is tied to them.

#154357

What the rep was telling you was accurate. It's a state requirement.

The state mandates that if another family memeber in your household gets in an accident involving any of the family member's cars than the insurance company is liable.

The good news is that the money paid to Amfam the other insurance company would be able to get reimbursed to you. This would have happened with any insurance company not just geico as it is a state regulation for most states.

#119207

That makes no sense as her car is already covered under another policy. I have faxed that to them three times now.

So I cancelled my GEICO this month and moved elsewhere. Thanks for the advice!

#119161

sorry you were supposed to tell them she was a possible user of your car by living in your home

you should thank this lady she saved you a pile of possible money

if she had an accident and the other persons attorney finds out where she lived you would have been named in the suit and would not have been covered by the insurance

#119151

I understand being upset, but from a legal point of view if your daughter is in a serious accident and is a resident relative at the time of the accident, the other party can go after your auto policy for anything her auto policy didn't cover. I think its terrible the system is setup that way, but your auto insurance has to adjust for that risk. I HATE automative payments, never set them up with any company!
