GEICO Leaves Handicapped without Transportation

am in Florida and I Also am having a very difficult time with Geico-We were involved in a four car accident and not at fault-The guy who was at fault was insured by Geico. He drove a large truck-big tires-anyway he lost steering and hit three different cars-mine included-We were all sitting on 27 waiting for a guy to turn-There is no turning lanes due to construction-you just turn from the lane you are driving in-none of us were moving when he hit us. I drive a cadillac and my husband is handicapped and we have to have a car with a trunk large enough for his wheelchair-I contacted my insurance Co. after the Dundee police gave us the HSMV crash report- my Insurance Co. said contact Geico and see if they would take care of it first- since I have a 500.00 deductable and I didn't know it but I had no car rental insurance(I do now!!-I called Geico and reported it-I did all this at the accident-I gave Geico all the information about all the vehicles involved. They said when they spoke to their client who caused the accident and if he told them he was at fault they would get back to me-They did. Geico set up an appointment with their adjuster(the accident happened Thursday before July fourth)My appt. was for the following Tuesday. The whole time they told me they would take care of everything and after I saw the adjuster they would reserve a rental for me- I spoke with five different Geico TEAM MEMBERS over the holiday weekend and on Monday We had driven our car home from the accident and were willing to drive to the adjuster(the adjuster does not come to you) but the whole right side of the car was damaged and the front tire on the passenger side was pushed in at an angle. We told Geico about the damage and they were Ok with us driving the car to meet the adjuster Our appointment was at 10:00am at 8:30am the claims adjuster from the Geico Lakeland office called as we were getting in our car-She informed us she had been out of the office and Geico would be unable to pay the damages or supply us with a rental car(We have been without a car since Thursday and my husband is handicapped)I told her all this and she was very sorry but there was nothing she could do-We could keep our appointment with the Geico adjuster but they could not pay for my claim(yet-I would have to contact my insurance Co. and have them take care of it. She said he (the client)didn't have enough coverage for all vehicles involved. I ask her why noone had told us before now-She said she had been out of the office-What about her TEAM I had spoken too? and what were we supposed to do for a rental vehicle-I ask what she would do- she said for me to call my insurance company and she then said we were going in circles was there anything else she could help me with? It certainly wasn't going to be a Rental Car. I called my insurance Co.-State farm and they handled everything. My car is at Fields Cadillac being repaired-My agent told me to call Geico and ask if they could pay for the rental since my insurance didn't cover that and since State Farm had covered everything else it was worth a try-I called her back and ask her she said no there was nothing she could do-they would pay State Farm since they would be paying for the repairs-there was nothing they could do for us. I had already called Enterprise when Geico had said they were going to supply a rental and made sure they had something my husband could get into from his wheelchair- that also had a large trunk-To Hold the wheel chair- I called Clifton at Lake Wales Enterprise and Apologized for any inconvenience-HE Was VERY NICE-Said if there was any way he could help us to let him know. We still don't have a rental- Geico said they didn't know how long it would take to resolve this they had contacted two of the drivers that had been hit(I'm one)- to tell us to have our insurance companies take care of the damages and the third driver had not been contacted yet-they had left the third driver messages-They couldn't resolve anything until he was contacted(what a joke Geico Needs To take some lessons from State Farm Insurance & Enterprise Car Rental and Lots of Help with Customer Relations!!!!! They don't care!!! My husband is telling all his friends how Geico treated him and now I'm telling people too!

The problem was not with Geico, but with the guy who caused the accident. When people buy cheapo policies and then cause big accidents, it screws up the whole process.

Geico can't settle a loss that's going to cost 15k when their insured only has 5k in coverage. They have to wait until a total bill is created and then figure out who will accept partial amounts. Does that make sense? Any insurance company is going to take those exact same steps.

Blame idiots with cheap policies, and irresponsible politicians who would rather get re-elected than update insurance laws.

Just because your husband is handicapped doesn't magically make things work differently. In a way it's a good thing you experienced this because next time the situation could be worse.

Get a decent policy for yourself and quit complaining. Don't call a company and ask for the best rate, figure out what coverages you want and then get a quote based on that.

Doesn't Pay to be Honest

On 6/13/08 I was coming around the back corner of my apartment complex that I live at when a fire truck came racing towards me. I started backing up because it is a very small area, to let them through and accidently backed into a car's rear quarter panel that was parked illegally in a driveway. Now we have been customers of Geico for 3 years and I am 43 years old and have NEVER been in an accident. We have NEVER filed a claim with Geico. Anyway, I didn't know who's car it was so I left a note on the car and when I got off work I called Geico to let them know what had happened. I was told that if I didn't hear from them that my insurance would not go up and also that it may not go up because we were long time customers and had never filed a claim before. If it did go up it would more than likely not be alot. I waited for the people to call, nothing. Then, over the weekend (7/4/08) my husband was looking through our bills for the month and found that Geico had raised our insurance rates about 50.00 a month! I thought that mabey Geico had got ahold of the people and that they had placed a claim, so I called. Geico told me that they had an open claim for about another week on the accident, no one had contacted them and that the reason that they raised my insurance rates was because I was honest enough to report the accident. So, no money was paid out, no accident was taken care of and they still raised my payments. What a scam!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say we are looking elsewhere for insurance.

They told me that using ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE just ONE time for a flat tire (even though I pay for it on my policy) is in-fact a claim and so my rates went up.

in most states like ca for example for any insurance comp to increase your rates state law dictates the insurance comp has something like 30 days or something like that after they sell you policy if they find you did something like lie on your application. Then from what ive been told after that your policy can only be chnged on the renwal date.

also in ca this is a fact i checked up on it. your policy can only be increased if your are at fault and the damagaes are more then $750 or there is an injury. now i know this works. i rear ended this guy who was pretty nice i called geico and they told me all of this.

i didnt belive them so i did some reading on line and found iot was correct. when i spoke to guy i rear ended the damages were something like $1200 so i gave him $500 geico paid him the rest they paid out if i rember corectly 730 or some thing like that. just below the 750 that was a yr ago. my rates did not go up, infact it whent down, i guess they lowerd rates in ca, i dunno what ever the fact is my rates whent down.

so long storry short i think there is something else that this person is saying.

i dunno what , maybe they were sore and told the claims rep that and the next week thier policy renewed. but if they pay nothing your rates wont go up it cant.

ps when i was looking into it i know all states are diffrent but i found rule of thumb. if you want to know if your rates can go up here is way you can find out. your state has a law saying you have to report an accident to the dmv if there are certian things ie inj dmgs more then a 750 like in ca.

then your rates will be increased, if not then they wont. o and everystats ive found you have to be atfault too i hope this helps

Agent, you are wrong. I reported a very minor claim and my bill has automatically gone up $25, effective immediately.

Their website said when I put in the claim that I'd here from them in 24 hours.

I only received a letter asking me the same questions as the online claim form. My calls to the assigned adjuster have not been returned.

It is October and my renewal isn't until January - which is exactly when I'll be shopping for new insurance.

Uh, your policy would not have gone up that quick. Tickets, accidents, etc.

are only added on the policy renewal date. Likewise, they are removed on a policy renewal date.

GEICO vs. HIPAA

We all know who won this battle. The bigger they get the more powerful they become. Government Employees Insurance Company counsel got my medical records without a court order. Then she tried to cover her butt after she realized I was not so ***. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 did not stand a chance against the dubious lizard. The HIPAA laws are a joke. Because I filed a lawsuit to protect my rights now my personal life is on public display. My personal medical records are open. Careful what you tell your doctor, you will see it again in the court room.

GEICO refuses claims: backs out of contract-uses unfair business practises

I have purhased a 2006 BMW in the end of February 2008, and since I had another (much older) vehicle insured with Geico, I just added the new BMW and specifically asked that it had to be fully insured, meaning to have Geico include everything: collision, rental, driver, passenger, etc. Agent confirmed my request and I paid in full for whatever extra he calculated. Mid-March 08 I was driving around 2am on the freeway and did not notice quite in time a piece of tire that had fallen down from a semi. Got some damage on the bamper. Called Geico just to hear that I did not have a collision coverage after all and they will not be paying anything since they found that it was my fault. I was repeatedly insaulted by Geico service representative and a supervisor who said that it's my responsibility to check what I am buying and they are not responsible for selling me a wrong kind of insurance. So Geico simply refused the claim completely, backed out. However, I still asked for an upgrade to finally get what I requested for in the first place; paid extra $400. Last week I placed the car for repairs in the BMW dealership and got a rental car from them. The dealeship covers 2 day rental; it's going to take about 5 days to fix the car. I called Geico for rental reimbursment, which is clearly stated as one of the coverages on my policy. The response was a refusal, combined with pushing me around, horrific customer service and already typical backing out of the contract. Geico practices selling false policies that don't cover and getting money for it, so that when an accident happens, they are clearly not responsible for the claim. It is very convenient- it's always a customer's fault that he/she relied on the Geico agent to provide with truthful information.

So you never had full coverage on the vehicle, and you say you didn't know? It's all over in the paperwork, and not hard to find out.

Not to mention, what would Geico's purpose be in NOT selling you full coverage?

Full coverage is MORE premium for them.

Sounds like you are just a little peaved you didn't swerve to avoid that tire.

I hate seeing customers screwed over because of an oversight of the CUSTOMER, not the INSURER. One thing no one ever does -- Does everyone agree -- is *read their insurance contract fully.* The customer thinks everything's okay and they're legal, blah, blah, blah...

and when they call their insurer, they're up the creek because they never TOOK THE TIME to find the errors on paperwork given to them.

Lesson learned. READ your contracts before you agree to them.

i dont work for geico, im in construction. but when i bought insurance online i got paper work saying what i had.

i read, noticed nothing said anything about a rental. i assumed it was automatic, so i called and was told rental is additional. so i bought it and in a few days i got more papers with my rental on it.

its not geicos fault. its yours for being a dumb dumb and not reading

Thoes cheap jerks insured me when I moved to Florida. No fault was new 2 me.

So I get rearended at a red light & find out nofault means u cant sue for pain but your insurance is required 2 pay 10k in med bills.

So Im in pain & ask what do I do 2 see a doc, sorry u can have the towing & rental but we froze your policy. :upset

You know that old saying, "If it's not in writing...it didn't happen?" You say you requested full coverage on your vehicle...but you should have received a new card that shows you only bought liability. And your premium would have been much lower for this.

You did indeed purchase rental car coverage, but the rental is available for repairs that are related to accidents that are covered under the policy. Since you got in this accident outside of your collision coverage, a rental does not apply.

At least it wasn't a crazy expensive lesson in clarifying.

Always ask what you're paying for, and READ the paperwork when it comes. Your new insurance card was in your hands for two weeks, at least, before you got in the accident.

Would not negiotate settlement on my car that burned.

When my 1993 BMW caught fire and burned, I received a call from the adjuster with a settlement offer of $3200. I told the adjuster that the offer was laughable and that I would not accept that amount. I was told at that time that Geico would not negotiate. That was their offer and it would not change. One week later, I was notified by mail that the adjuster and her boss had gone and reinspected the car and that they were lowering the offer to $2600. I do not know at this time what will happen next. Do we not have the right to negiotate?

I am so upset with Geico, I have been a customer for 6 years. I made payment arrangements I was to pay them ibline, I could'nt get through and so I called them, I am now cancelled and will have to pay $198.00 or $300.00 to reinstate now to get reinsured.

My payment was to be $126.00 (which I had to scrap up and which was the reason for the payment arrangement.

Boy, they got me but never again. Yeah they got my money for 6 years and I never used them!!!!

READ your policy. Your other, and I mean EVERY other vehicle insurance will want the SAME information.

And paying for a tow in advance is a courtesy that NOT all insurers will do. MOST will reimburse you the cost.

Product Name: car insurances) JAN 3 2009 MY WIFE ONLINE WITH Geico and than call them was told for 209.29 a month , paid with bank visa card , about 4 days later get a email said that had to go up on insurance on the two cars it was about 2 time more a month, we are on a fix income, she told them that was too much for us to pay , the guy told her that they could cancel it they did cancel it on the 12 of jan. 12 2008, he said we,was to get it all back , but they charge us for 7 days of insurance on two cars , and early cancel fee from north carolina, we got 21.73 back that is wrong, we have insurance with state farm have been for about 15 years now all we wanted was low cost but we got rob without a gun ,thanks for the time

Geico insurance

My son has a 2005 Honda Accord. He had an accident that required replacement of the forn bumper and the front passenger fender. Geico insisted on NON oem parts and actually bought them for the repair shop. The repair shop told geico that they don't fit right. Geico says use them they are good enough. The repair shop fixes the car but the fit is bad. Geico says it is the repair shops fault that the parts don't fit but Geico bought the parts. My son is stuck with a poor repair due to the insurance comapany that was paid by him to make sure his car get repaired correctly. Stay away from them. There are much better insurers out there that actually take care of the people who pay them rather than rip them off.

Your beef isn't with the insurance company, but with your state regulations. The state regulates the use of aftermarket parts not the insurance company. If all consumers used oem parts for their repairs all of the premiums would be even higher
