I was a GEICO customer for more than years, no accidents, tickets, or claims. My car is old (2004) and I'm a good driver. Premiums kept rising over time until, earlier this year, the value proposition (my record and auto plus their coverage) didn't match. I left for Progressive.

When it came time to renew my Progressive policy, I got a tickler email from GEICO saying I could buy insurance from them for six months at just $214. I clicked the "get quote" knowing I'd never go back.

Well, the coverage was ridiculous. As a competing agent said, "That coverage is non-existent. If you had an accident, there'd be no one to call but your lawyer."

Thanks to all of the reviews out there from people who have had experience with GEICO, I know that agreeing to low coverage is like walking a tightrope. Even if you get the car insurance coverage you SHOULD get to remain a financially responsible driver, companies like GEICO can play games about paying the claim.

While I'm not sure that my new car insurer is great, I do know that no one in their team every offered ultra-low coverage to get me to buy their car insurance.

GEICO is ridiculous and disgusting. I'm 62 this year, and one of their reps said "When you're in your 60s, your premiums go up because your reflexes become poor." I wrote to their CEO about this comment because, honestly, it's offensive. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that no one should be saying these things to a customer with a clean driving history.

Reason of review: I've already left Geico but they're continuing to contact me..

Preferred solution: Cease contact, retrain customer service individuals who blame clients' age for rising premiums, apology.

GEICO Cons: Unjustfied rate increases, Discriminate against disabled person, Commercials that insult ones intelligence, Ethical problem, Unresponsive.

Location: Norton, Massachusetts

Offensive or not, statistics prove that the frequency and severity of accidents certainly increase when we all reach a certain age. Our eyesight, hearing and reflexes decrease with our age.

Your rates will steadily increase with every insurer as you age. Your rates will eventually be commensurate with the same rates of a 16 year old, inexperienced driver due to the increased risk posed to the insurance company. There are companies that will eventually refuse to renew your coverage, solely due to age. It's legal and practiced daily.

Insurance is a risk based business and rates and renewal ability will be weighed accordingly.

These are facts and your prior carrier was doing their job and answering your question honestly.

You should understand a few things about your rates and the insurance industry as a whole. There are more drivers on the road than ever before. There are more accidents and construction on our roads than ever before.

More people are using telephones, hand held devices and texting than ever before. The price of vehicles are hirer than they have ever been. The labor charges to repair these vehicles will never be on a decreasing scale. Your money is pooled.

When I have a claim, the company will be using some of your money to pay that claim. If you continue not reporting claims to the company, you'll be rewarded with discounts, but your overall rates will still increase. This is what keeps businesses profitable.

I've been in the business almost three decades. I'm a failure at my job if I don't help people understand the above facts.
