Unauthorized driver added to policy, false documentation, coerced waiver, and refusal to reverse charges.

Geico is the worst experience I've had with an insurance company. They added my daughter to my auto policy without my authorization, then sent me an email saying, 'Thanks for reaching out, your daughter has been added to your policy.' That is completely false; I never made any such request.

Shortly after, they sent me an unexpected bill for $536.11. When I called customer service to dispute the charge, I was pressured into signing a driver exclusion waiver with the understanding that it would remove her from the policy and reverse the charge. I signed the waiver as instructed, but Geico refused to issue a refund. When I asked to escalate the situation or speak with a supervisor, I was given the runaround.

They refused to provide me with a direct email address or contact for anyone who could help resolve the issue. At this point, I've been charged over $500 for a policy change I never authorized, misled by customer service, and denied any meaningful path to escalate or resolve my complaint.

My ex-husband had a policy that had me as named insured and then later coinsured without my consent, where he and his side chicks were drivers. I called and disputed having anything to do with this policy as he was my abuser.

I started sending them the court orders and legal documents showing our legal separation, as well as he and I were both under an order of protection. I'd call and Geico would swear that I was removed and that their claims would not affect me. After my divorce trial, I got a policy (that I consented to having) bound in my name (through Alpha, later Progressive) where my rates were more than double what they should have been due to Geico's negligence to take my claims of fraud seriously, continued to wrongfully report me as being linked to that fraudulent policy. I've disputed it through Nexus Lexus, I've made reports to the Alabama Dept of Insurance, the FTC, the SEC, and the Attorney General.

I've made reports with IdentityTheft.gov and spent over 100 hours on the phone trying to get Geico to make a simple account change. Due to their neglect and improper reporting of my private information, not only was my consumer report showing me linked to my abuser and his paramour drivers, my rates reflected it with any carrier I went to. I had no choice but to pay it because I need a tag to drive. Another amazing bonus was when I got my new car, my new policy, and moved, thinking he would not recognize the vehicle and I'd be okay.

Nope - he had access to my VIN, vehicle make, model, and garaging location, putting me in severe danger. Alysha Tucker from the Office of the President responded to the ALDOI and has been absolutely incompetent herself. Now, although they claim they have finally, 2 years later, removed me from my abusive ex-husband's fraudulent policy, I'm still being rated incorrectly. Geico feels they are not responsible for the over-inflated premiums I had to pay to other carriers, but I was only rated incorrectly higher because they continued to falsely report my consumer information.

I loved having my ex and his girlfriends be able to find me just as much as I'd assume they'd love knowing I too can see their very private information on my consumer report.

The other carrier can only rate me based on the report provided. When false information is being mishandled and wrongfully shared, I feel that the people wrongfully reporting the information should be responsible for reimbursing me for the 15 months I paid overages.

User's recommendation: Geico will not uphold their fiduciary duty to you as a consumer. Geico will not protect your privacy. Geico will falsly report your info to the consumer reporting agencies and do absolutely zero follow through on any tips of fraud claim you make. Finding an attorney is very easy. You need a one hour consultation and a very well thought out list of questions.

Everything that needs to be done after can be done by you. As someone else mentioned, your name if/on any auto loan or registration and date your license address changed is critical. A legal separation doesn’t change current loans/registration or your license address.

You also need the lawyer to explain why Geico (or any auto insurance) is only required to have your best interests at hand and is NOT considered a fiduciary. Good luck

So why are you here, IF you think you're right, hire an attorney.

Guest

I have no idea of your particulars from your post. I do know that all three of these things have to be true for you to be disengaged from him and anything auto-related.

Your name cannot be on any loan for any car with Geico insurance. Your name cannot be on any state registration for any car with Geico insurance.

Your driver’s license cannot reflect the address where a Geico policy is in effect. If and when all three of these thing became true is when you can be removed from the policy.

Hello to all if any of you reading my encounter with Geico renters insurance and companion policy with Homesite earthquake insurance. I have successfully cancelled and been refunded from both company's thanks to pissedconsumer.com the online watchdog!

for all of us who shop and conduct their business online. My advice, if you choose to be insured with an out of area insurance company make sure you create an online account so you are totally in control.

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. I just received my refund I vented here from GEICO renters insurance. Thanks again for providing the public with America's great consumers website, www.pissedconsumer.com.

Original review Feb 26, 2025
This is related to my complaint with GEICO earthquake insurance in which I was fully compensated thanks to complaining here at pissedconsumer.com The entire year of 2024 having renters insurance through GEICO I paid to them $133.00 and never filed a claim. Now since my policy included them and companion home site earthquake policy I decided to cancel my renters insurance be done with both of them.

On 01-11-25 I paid them $34.20 On 02-10-25 I phoned them asking to cancel my policy and was told I would receive a refund in the amount of $21.22 back to the credit card and that it would reflect no later than 02-27-25 and it has not. I did all this over the phone with their staff which may be partially a mistake.

I should have started the policy and cancel from their website. I have since found a local insurance agency for my renter's insurance needs.

Complain

GEICO - Complain

I am 44 years old and have been working since I was 14 years old. I have 9 children who have never received government assistance.

I bought a brand new car because a few years ago I was hit from behind by someone going 75 mph while I was going 14 and I was afraid to be on the road after that. So, I went and bought a bigger car in order to feel safe. Well, I took it back to the dealer because it was pulling to the right. I went back and forth with the dealership for a week and a half about them claiming there was no issue, while I was begging them to check more thoroughly.

I was treated horribly. I was given a written receipt informing me that multiple mechanics had driven it and asserted there was nothing wrong. Then, while I was working and a coworker was driving, something broke under the hood. The steering and brakes stopped working, we were pulled to the right, ended up on two wheels, and got hit again on the passenger side (the right) again and again.

Long story short, the car was totaled on the passenger side only, it was untouched on the driver side. As a result, Geico took my claim. They were paying my lost wages, medical bills, and loss wages for a few months, until I got doctors notes stating I could return to work. However, then my premium was canceled because I supposedly had a bad driving record due to that accident, even though I was not the driver, but the passenger.

When I corrected the representative, she stuttered and said that she would call me back. After several days and left messages, I received no response. This situation also negatively affected my 25-year-old hard-working son. They set my family back to the position we were in before they took my claim.

I wish I knew that them accepting my claim would cause such upset, because I would not have allowed myself to upset them and face such torment and hassle alongside my child a year later.

They also waited to cancel my policy until after I had paid them $500, then a week later $580. The next day, they canceled my insurance: angry.

I was quoted a price by agent and it kept changing. They brought up people who were not related to me or lived with me but had at one time lived at the address.

Eventually we agreed on a price and after the agent was rude with me. I still went it. Then 2 hours later I reconsidered and cancelled the policy. I left a voice mail for the agent the same date.

I wrote the company and cancelled the policy. I spoke with 2 other agents live and explained i did not need coverage and went with another provider.
Now Im billed for $20.89 claiming i had coverage for 6 days from 3/25/25- 3/31/25. I did not even purchase said vehicle until 4-2-25.
My bill gave me a number to call and all i got was bots. Impossible to deal with anyone.

Long wait time and been on hold for 28 minutes. They are happy to sell you a policy but Customer Service Stinks

Auto insurance about to be cancelled

Shop around check lexisnexis report. Same accident on report in duplicate being charged double.

Insurance quotes 12,000 a year it's insane.. check driving record .

Oh and let's not forget insurance companies have their own point system even when dmv points no longer count. All outrageous....

Original review Jun 04, 2025

Informed me that my insurance would not be renewed. Why, you ask?

Suspension during COVID for not getting an eye test. Then I got a ticket for driving with a suspended license. As if I was notified. As soon as I was informed my license was suspended, I went to DMV and took the eye test.

Did DMV remove it? Nope. Losers, the whole bunch of them. One worse than the next.

In my opinion, no one does their job anymore. Too busy bsing on cell phones.

Then you get stuck trying to fix the problem... useless.

Unethical

with us on 2/14. Is this the right chat to review?

Shelby K 8:29:10 AM

I tried to explain to you guys that the status of my license that you saw November 3 was an error caused by an erroneous abstract sent to the DMV

Victoria 8:29:15 AM

By the court

Victoria 8:29:29 AM

I now have a court order granting my motion regarding that incorrect abstract that caused the message that you saw which then eventually caused you to cancel my policy

Victoria 8:30:23 AM

I need to have you reinstate my policy from the date of cancellation up until at least February 14 because this was an error

Victoria 8:30:52 AM

I would like to get a quote for the renewal of my policy, which I never got because you non-renewed

Victoria 8:31:17 AM

I'm so sorry this happened and due to the inconvenience.

Give me just a few moments to review your policy and start working on getting this quote worked up for you.

Shelby K 8:32:41 AM

Where can I send you the copy of the motion that was granted by the court just this morning I have a screenshot

Victoria 8:38:13 AM

Thank you for sending this! I have added this to your policy files, and we still do need an abstract of your driving history or copy of your motor vehicle report to quote reissuing the policy for you. Do you have a copy of this right now?

Shelby K 8:38:59 AM

I think youre missing the entire point

Victoria 8:41:25 AM

This order reverses the entry in the DMV system that showed my license as suspended

Victoria 8:41:44 AM

It is a retroactive order

Victoria 8:41:52 AM

Meaning that my license was never suspended or should have never been suspended, and that was the error. Therefore, it reverses any actual suspension that occurred.

Victoria 8:42:12 AM

Which means that my policy shouldve never lapsed or been not renewed

Victoria 8:42:58 AM

I understand, however our Underwriting Department still requires a copy of your motor vehicle report or abstract of your driving history to re-activate your policy.

If there was something else that could be provided in replace of this, I would absolutely suggest this for you. But, without this document we cannot reactivate the policy.

Shelby K 8:43:08 AM

Youre missing the point its not an activation.

It is aYoure missing the point its not every activation. It is a complete reinstatement

Victoria 8:43:49 AM

That is the point is that there was an error made by the court on my DMV file which then caused the action that you took which you shouldve never had to take because there shouldve not been a suspension

Victoria 8:44:29 AM

What needs to happen is a reversal of everything because this was an error not anything that I caused or did

No you are missing the point what they refuse to do is reinstate the policy regardless of the driving record. They cancelled the policy based on the court error and knowing the court error caused it they refuse to reverse their action.

There is never a “regardless of the driving record” in car insurance. You may have got dealt a bad hand, but provide your driving record instead of folding your arms and proclaiming you are right.

I think it is you who are missing the point. The DMV got info to mark your license suspended.

The court ruled it should not have been. The issue for your insurance is they need your driving record.

Why? Because they don’t know for example if Ruby S Jones mistakingly got her license suspended because a worker did not scroll down far enough to Ruby V Jones or if you had a driving violation that resulted in a fine but a worker checked “suspension” box on the DMV report.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2668037

Again, I say you are missing the agent’s point. She/the insurance company do not know if the court error was the result of a big nothing or was it the result of you receiving a lesser sanction, not a suspension.

You could be sitting on a four point violation. You are fighting providing the driving record too hard when it could clear this matter up.

Geico sucks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

4 months after my last renewal, dated 7-26-2024 at 11:15am, (This email confirms your payment of $547.07 on 07/26/2024 from your checking account ending in 5813. Confirmation #328707), the fix was on. Geico sent me 5 emails on 1-14-2025, 2 more on 1-17-2025, and 1 email on 1-18-2025.

On 1-14-2025, at 9:09am, I was prompted by email, to (Incomplete: You haven't verified your Auto account yet!) by choosing to pay for "uninsured" motorists' coverage. Florida law requires proof of insurance from every driver in the state; why would I have to pay for someone who is uninsured?

Since it was impossible to connect with a live agent, I was forced to make an uninformed selection after trying for 3 days to talk to a human agent. Immediately, Geico tried to charge me an extra $247+ on renewal, which dwindled to $72+ after another choice. More adjustments were needed on my policy.

Then, on 01-17-2025, at 5:19pm, greedy Geico screwed me out of $26.88 (confirmation# 53F676.) My understanding as a Geico customer is simple: I pay my bill in full, leave me the *** alone.

Shockingly, on 1-18-2025, at 11:01am, (after the $26.88 rip-off,) another dimwitted Geico email advised me (Congratulations! You've got the Paid in Full discount on your policy because you chose to pay your entire policy in full. We noticed that a partial payment has been made on your policy.) There was no partial payment made, Geico stole $26.88 which I was forced to pay. How could that be a partial payment when my next payment would be on February 21st, 2025? That's if anyone knew what they were doing at Geico.

So, today, as I look at your renewal notice, I smile and tell myself "Never again."

Florida may require proof of insurance from every resident, but think how many people you encounter on a daily basis from other states! Florida does not require residents to purchase uninsured motorist coverage but they require insurance companies to offer it.

Those that decline must do so in writing.

I have had Geico insurance for 8 years now and have zero complaints. When a scammer tried to blame me for a hit and run that never happened, Geico was there for me and assisted me greatly in proving this scammer to be a liar in court.

I pay "my" insurance in full, and I am insured. You are pretending that the extra coverage is to protect myself, then why is it called "uninsured motorist coverage?" You are too smart for your own good. TikTok is back on.

Guest

With uninsured motorist coverage you are not paying someone else’s insurance bill. You are protecting yourself in the event you are hit by an uninsured motorist. Geico (and all insurances) require acknowledgement of accepting or declining this extra protection.

Horrible experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Stay away. Signed all the papers I was asked to sign when I signed up for the insurance.

A month later with no warning or communication something is missing they said there was a document missing and because of that they added an extra insurance charge that I specifically declined and charged me $681 additional for a month when my 6 month policy was only 2k that I paid in advance. I called them and all I got was I am sorry this is our policy and I know we didnt send you a notice or call you that we still needed one more signature.. in the process of trying to dispute this then they increased my insurance another $85 a month with in a month of signing up. How does that happen and I had a binding quote?

I left them and went back to progressive which is a great company to have. Geico still charged me the fees and for the one month I was with them they charged me $1,300. I have a perfect driving record and great credit. Stay away!

They are unorganized and unprofessional once you try to escalate.

You did not have a “binding” quote. What you were given was a preliminary quote based on your answers to questions. The underwriter then validates those answers, runs a credit check and runs your driving record.
