Why I withdrew my application for auto insurance with GEICO
Harebrained? I beg your pardon!
I spent almost three decades dealing with the public and you are as unprofessional as the salesman that was a keystroke away from a sale , then, stopped suddenly , to ask me if my Jeep was a salvage. I was somewhat surprised as it would have come up long before then , and the Title, which I went and pulled out of my safe , (out of respect for the salesman , I extended the benefit of the doubt) I examined the title carefully , then asked a nearby friend who is more familiar with motor vehicle laws in the state of Wyoming. ( I moved here only a year ago so I myself was at first not certain of the salvage laws in Wyoming). Now , first complaint , most of the application I was sent was all information I have already given in my online application.
Second , in the section "Underwriting Questions" all questions asked are questions that can be easily obtained on your computer. Have I ever been refused insurance or renewal? or received a notice of such intent? in the past five years?
Every policy number of every insurance carrier over the past five years? Have I ever been involved in an accident not listed ? (in other words did you lie on your application) Is my vehicle a salvage? a question I have already clearly answered (to the best of my knowledge) Does any driver require a financial responsibility filing?
if yes explain...and one other question completely irrelevant to my application for auto insurance. Do I certify that all drivers listed will wear their seat-belts? Who do you think your speaking to ? a fifteen year old ?
Every question was either already on my application or a direct inference to my suspect integrity! Yes! I am insulted! I'm being asked to put into writing what I already provided , and that could have easily been verified by the agent.
Which , by the way , is his job.
For these reason's , and they are good reasons, I choose not to use Geico ! AND you can take your name calling (harebrained ) {{REDACTED}}.
Note: If you read what I wrote, you would grasp that what was left blank was not applicable .
A week ago I got online to see if I could find a more affordable underwriter for my auto policy. Last year I had the first accident in over twenty years.
I was alone driving in Wyoming when the temps dropped twenty degrees and the road suddenly became ice. I immediately recognized the situation as I used to drive over the road professionally and I listen to the tires on the road. When the sound of your tires is suddenly silent, you have rolled onto an icy road. I very slowly began to ease off the gas , but it was too late, I lost traction and was unable to recover.
The vehicle I was driving left the road and as luck would have it , a drainage culvert that allowed water to pass under the state road swallowed my wheel and the vehicle rolled several times , totaling the vehicle. My first claim in twenty years, the Highway Patrol ruled it a "no fault" accident. Apparently Progressive auto does not concern themselves with blame unless it allows them to avoid paying a claim. When I purchased another vehicle they quadrupled my policy cost.
I dropped my insurance with Progressive infuriated that they had the audacity to jump on an opportunity to raise my rates given the circumstances. I found another underwriter but the best I could do was double the cost of my previous policy. It was the General I then went with , but I had initially been given a quote with rental coverage and roadside and when everything was said and done I noticed they had not included my rental or roadside coverage and when I asked why they said they had made a mistake and if i wanted to add the two It would be extra. I did not add them deciding that I would let the six month policy expire and find another underwriter.
I went online and went through the usual *** of putting it out there that I was seeking auto insurance and dealt with the constant sales calls for a number of weeks before I was contacted by Geico. I was just about done with a salesman on the phone when suddenly he paused and asked if my vehicle was a salvage. I said no, it is not. The title is clean and I have driven it for almost a year, and there was nothing during the course of the usual maintenance which I often do myself as I am on a fixed income,(SSDI).
He said well, no problem , but as a formality I will need you to sign a couple of things , I'll send them in the mail and you just fill them out sign them and return them and I am sure there won't be a problem. So , I received the "application" today. It was asking me for everything but a colonoscopy. I was and still remain offended and incensed by this "inquisition" to determine if I am "worthy" .
or perhaps am withholding information or looking to commit fraud. So I withdrew my application and will never consider Geico in the future to underwrite any kind of policy for me. Sincerely: John Thomas Underwood Jr.
The way I have been treated following an accident that not only could not have been prevented, or anticipated , but could have taken my life, is beyond reprehensible. No ethics, no compassion , no understanding , just a rush to milk me for more money, not because it was justified, but simply because they could.
